Family Group Sheet for James Dodge (1807-1877) & Rachel Curtis (1806-1877)
This is something I've wanted to do for quite a while. Now that I've had a day off, I was able to get this done. These are family group sheets for thee generations of Dodge's: Benjamin & Mary (Merrow) Dodge; James & Rachel (Curtis) Dodge; and Nathaniel T. & Fannie H. (Stevens) Dodge. I'm sure there will be questions for those who may see these, so I'll try to explain what I've put together.
For Benjamin Dodge and his family, I've listed Benjamin Dodge's birthplace in Newcastle, Maine instead on Edgecomb, Maine. They are neighboring towns in Lincoln County, Maine (and I would love to go visit someday). Evidence from land records suggests that Benjamin was from Newcastle and that he resided there until 1789, when he moved to Sandy River, now known as Strong, Maine. That's why I listed the birthplace of his first two children, Abigail and Joseph, in Newcastle and not Strong, where the rest of his children were born. One major change is his daughter Polly. She is also known as Mary and was born in January 1802, at least according to her gravestone.
For James Dodge and his family, I've listed the birthplace of his first three children (Wilson, James Harvey and Emily) as Salem, and the rest of his children as Rangeley. The 1860 U.S. Census lists the towns James and his family were born in, and lists the birthplaces of several of his children as Rangeley. The 1870 U.S. Census also lists Emily's birthplace as Salem. Wilson's birth record is also recorded in Salem, Maine.
There isn't too much to explain for Nathaniel T. and his family, except the spelling of Nathaniel's middle name. I've spelled it as 'Toothaker' for two reasons. The first: In the 1840 U.S. Census where his father and family lived, there were a number of families with the surname 'Toothaker.' The second: On the SSN Application for his daughter, Rachel Elizabeth (Dodge) Newitt, filed in 1972 (yes, 1972), she spells her father's name as 'Toothaker.' I know the reasons aren't too terribly concrete, but this explains why I've spelled his middle name this way.
Also, on each of these group sheets, I've listed (as much as I could remember) the sources of information. Hopefully they are readable, but alot of the information listed can be found in other areas of this blog.
